I might think someone getting shot in the face with a tear gas canister could be an accident, but lobbing a flash grenade into a crowd forming around someone injured is downright malicious.

That's the guy we want.

If the Oakland PD is worth its salt, they should be able to figure out who did that.
That's the bastard who needs to turn in his badge, no compromise, no debate.

Oh, they absolutely know who it was.
He's been bragging about this ever since.
Probably did have to buy his own beer all night.

We want his badge. That is justice.

"Provocative attention grabbing sentence. Patronizing set up. Shame on you. Hyperbole. Shame on you. False analogy. Outrage. Ad hominem! False Dilemma!"
Fuck this. As a resident of Oakland, I deplore seeing more violence in a city already plagued by violence. I would much rather see the city act in support its citizen's right to speak out against injustice. However, I'm fed up with seeing Olbermann and the clowns he left at MSNBC abuse such childish tactics. I refuse to pat someone on the back simply because they've become a yelling head for our side. Is the intended implication that we're not smart enough to make our own judgements in reaction to this footage?
The way I see it, Olbermann is left with only one false dichotomy: learn how to practice journalism and contribute to the meaningful debate that our country needs or resign.

Yeah?

A false dichotomy? I don't see where that equates to riot gear cops shooting people with rubber bullets and lobbing shock grenades into the crowd.

I think you're on the wrong side here, boy.

I will be genuinely surprised if these protesters remain non-violent for much longer. You cant expect a crowd of angry desperate people to channel Ghandi for long, even without the police lobbing explosives at them.

Good point, but I think it will remain largely non-violent.

Violence on the part of the protesters gives the pigs a justification.

You can bet money that the cops have infiltrated the protesters, and that no small amount of violence can be attributed to them. Agent provocateurs.

Still...if the shit comes down...we're not going to be anybody's punching bag.

I hate to disparage cops, because I have family there...but if that bastard who threw the shock grenade isn't culled...then fuck 'em.

Hey Duckman!

Back as much as I can be. McFate throwing me curveballs. Mamason had emergency surgery recently, and we're trying to work past that.

Good to see you and the familiar names and funny people here.

Ciao.

I do love that song "Laughter in the Rain." I mean, not love like I'd like to give it a rimjob or anything...or oral sex...not like he's Annie Lennox...but it was a happy song in a time/space continuum when I was around ten years old and more monkey than man, climbing trees and chewing on dandelion stems, scouring unlikely places for thrown-away Playboy's and Penthouses and dreaming of a secret hiding place where I could have sex with women twice my age....

None of the above.

The #OWS must next evolve, and I think it will.

Go from an "occupy" movement to a "general strike" movement. If we can organize a few hundred people to meet at random and dance to a version of Michael Jackson's Thriller, then we can organize ourselves to make sure 100,000 people coincidentally "call in sick" when and where it is most strategic to our goals.

We can cause more damage to our enemies (I use that word specifically) by choosing not to participate in their exploitive system on a large scale basis. The ultimate goal is to be able to shut down this country at will, until the GOP starts sitting at the bargaining table.

The movement may ebb and flow...but I don't think it's going away.

Too many of us are hurting too badly to pretend all is well.

Austerity is not an option: tax the rich, end the wars, invest in America.

Above all, as Russell Simmons said, get money out of Washington.

Can someone explain the Greek riots to me? I've only followed far enough to have picked up that they are in opposition to the austerity measures being enacted by government? What I've heard sounds like the government spent so much on social services that it went bankrupt, and the protesters are angry that the government is now attempting to cut back it's social services.
I'm not of strong opinion on this like I am in many other situations, but the balance of what I've heard sounds like the anti-austerity protests are so much whining that everyone wants their free money and maybe if we shoot the messenger the economy will recover.

The brunt of it is that Greece is in trouble, and the majority of people who will have to pay for it, or endure "austerity" as the fatcats like to say, had nothing, zero, to do with the trouble.

I've been trying to find out what went wrong there, but I see a lot of smoke and few specifics.

Naturally, any time the blame can be laid on social programs, then that narrative will be most promoted among America's mainstream media.

Frankly I think it was a combination of things, and some of it may have been related to the same CDO swindle that bankrupted Iceland.

But I'm sure you'll agree that if Greece went nuclear, all of their problems would be solved...just like Japan's....

EDIT:

Two words: Goldman Sachs.

Goldman was criticized for its involvement in the 2010 European sovereign debt crisis. Goldman Sachs is reported to have systematically helped the Greek government mask the true facts concerning its national debt between the years 1998 and 2009.[76] In September 2009, Goldman Sachs, among others, created a special credit default swap (CDS) index to cover of high risk of Greece's national debt.[77] The interest-rates of Greek national bonds have soared to a very high level, leading the Greek economy very close to bankruptcy in March and May 2010 and again in June 2011.
