Pole Vaulting with Allison Stokke

oohlalasassoon says...

Pole vaulted in high school. I sucked. Another guy, who sucked a bit more had his pole break in 4 pieces. His momentum kept him going into the pit so no big deal. It's not very uncommon, or at least it didn't used to be. Poles definitely have a shelf life and I'm pretty sure the policy at our school was to use poles until they broke.

I would be too afraid that the pole will snap.

^ Agreed. On the one hand, the candidates need a big-picture individualism, stoicism, and acceptance that they're leaving all the people they love behind -- they need the ability to "disconnect" from that human companionship-- yet they also have to somehow get along with 3 strangers. To say nothing of the ability to not totally flip out when a chestburster pops out of one of them during dinner.

I must be the only one in the nation that doesn't go ga-ga for Superbowl ads. I would have to be held hostage for a year to regress to a point where I would find TV commercials interesting. TV and pop culture is nothing but disposable retreads, but people keep chasing that first high. Gotta keep "pushing the envelope" with high production values, shock value, celebrity cameos, and everything else you learn in Publicity Stunts 101.

Maybe my emotions are easily manipulated but I thought this was beautiful, and I typically don't even like dance.

And the age difference? The fact that he could be her father? Eureka. Watch it again as a father-daughter relationship, one where the father tries but fails to connect to his wild-child daughter while she's young, one where the daughter realizes too late the mistake of her younger ways when she loses him to death at the end.
