Roddick Wins With "The Best Shot of my Life"

>> ^Crosswords:

I agree somewhat with Westy, it certainly lacks the flair of American football when a player makes a spectacular catch, or well executed plays trounce their opponents.

I've been trying to watch some NFL games on tv here in Finland when I have the opportunity, because I do think that handegg is basically a good game, requiring a lot of tactical and strategical thinking along with high amounts of athleticism. The problem is that it's impossible to watch. Totally, completely impossible. We lack the advertisements you guys get over there, and since there really isn't anything to replace them with they have to put on a blank screen (because they don't get the feed during the advertisements either), so you get a few minutes of game time and then you get a static image with some elevator music playing until you get back to the game for another few minutes. If only the pauses between plays would be more along the lines of 10 seconds, tops...

At least the Super Bowl had some historical footage to show during the commercial breaks...

That's EXACTLY how i feel about all those "realistic" shooters that keep coming and coming. I'm so glad the Duke will be back...

True that. There hasn't been a good "realistic" FPS since the original Rainbow Six. God I love that game.

Well, okay, the Swats 3 & 4, Operation Flashpoints and Arma also qualify...

CBC thoroughly deconstructs homeopathy

Those skeptics trying to overdose are doing it wrong! Homeopathic medicines are more powerful the less you take them, they're just making sure they don't accidentally overdose by taking dozens of them at a time...

The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim

Ultimately the main thing I didn't like in Oblivion were the dungeons and ruins (pretty much everything could be changed with mods to my liking). Many people say that they were procedurally generated and that's why they suck (like in Daggerfall), but unfortunately they were lazily hand built with just a few pieces. Having played Minecraft I know that proper procedurally built dungeons would have been better. The dungeons are my main concern for the new game. I trust that Bethesda and the modding community combined can take care of the rest.

Still, until they release a game with realistic scale and including every territory mentioned in the series (gradual upgrades, naturally) it's all just a waste of time really. The Imperial Bridge should be 14 miles long at the bare minimum, and should take an appropriate amount of time to cross. That's why quick travel and horses exist.

Awesome Milk Fluidity Trick

We tried this tonight with skim milk - does not work. My wife, instead of saying "will you please stop wasting milk and act like a grownup for once," said "I'll put whole milk on the list so we can try again tomorrow!"
I love her.

Why would you even try it with skim milk? The part starting at 1:05 is pretty clear.

First woman to beat Ninja Warrior

jubuttib says...

>> ^lucky760:

It's worth mentioning that this is not the same Ninja Warrior tournament that only 3 men have completed, Sasuke, but the women's version, Kunoichi.
Even more worth mentioning is that not only did Ayako Miyake beat Kunoichi her first time out, but she won three tournaments in a row. Impressive.

Yeah, I read the title and was like "Holy crap!", because I'd heard that Chie Nishimura was the only woman to even get past the first stage.

60 min News Has "Top Gear" on

jubuttib says...

The only good things about American cars I've heard them say in a while were that the Cadillac CTS-V was pretty good (well, the suspension was developed at the Nordschleife, if you can get it around there you can't be too far off), Jeremy liked the ZR1 (at first, he's changed his mind since), Hammond liked the Challenger (he would...) and that the new Camaro isn't horrible (but that's an Australian car, all the important bits are by Holden). Have there been other remarks I've missed/forgotten?>> ^arghness:

Good coverage, missed out many observations about Americans and their vehicles, or Stig's American cousin.
In fairness, Top Gear seems to have had more good things to say about American cars recently.
