Even Pat Robertson Attacks Young Earth Theory As A "Joke"

jones1899 says...

Some people are never satisfied. Personally, I'm so tired of the extremists views on both sides (and believe me, Pat Robertson is often the source of pretty nasty extreme views) that this was actually refreshing. Some people are just so cynical, they can't appreciate anything less than Pat Robertson and Jesus himself coming forward as atheists.

Here's my view on it for those who may care:

Religion is pretty worthless. Sure it's been the cause of lots of horrible (and good) things through history, but it's also an attempt to combine what some deem as fact with something that's so beyond fact that we can't even comprehend it. It's man made. Full of errors and contradictions, blah, blah, blah. We all know that. Basically it all just falls apart whenever you try to throw science in there. It's like judging an apple by the standards of screwdriver.

So let's look at just the spiritual side of things. This is where I hang out. I see it as something beyond science (though uses science as it's tool) and factual understanding. It goes beyond nitpicking this fact and that falsehood. It's just a thing in the air that you can either be in touch with or not. If you are (and I am) then it fills a gap. Gives you hope. Comfort. Peace. Lots of things that are indescribable. But you feel better when you have it and you can't choose to believe in it or not. You just do. If you don't buy into it, then there is no gap to begin with. Doesn't make you smarter or better. You just have different needs.

Now maybe that means that in some dark recess of your psyche that if you're in touch with this spiritual side of things, then you die believing you'll be in an amazing place for eternity. And so you are. Or you don't believe, and so you aren't. Neither is better or worse compared to the other because they have no business being compared to the other. They don't coexist. They just both exist.

I think whatever it is that you believe in sets a standard for your life. Following those things, being true to those things, is what it's all about. This completes you. You can't force them on others or yourself for that matter. You can't punish others for not playing by your rules. You just have to play by your own (as long as you don't harm others).

And I'm tired of spiritualism HAVING to mean pure magic. Science is magic. Science is the most amazing magic. Does things you'd never believe. It's not an insult. It's just makes the whole damn system that much more incredible. If you choose to call that magic, go right ahead. It's just a word. Before long we'll realize that science can do things magic only dreamed of and that's pretty damn magical.

By the way, I'm not typing this trying to change anyone's mind or act like it's some kind of original thought. I'm just typing some thoughts. I like this kind of shit. Debates are great and healthy. I'm just sick of people hating on or insulting folks for believing in their heart something that's different.

Florida Gang Smashes Woman's Face, Breaks Cheek Bone

YEAH MAAAAAN! Cops are worthless HUH!? I love watching videos of them use force cause it's like a problem MMMAAAANNNN. A MUCH bigger problem than the huge rise in blacks ganging up and jumping whites in the name of racial hatred! We don't need to post and comment on THOSE videos cause it's not the blacks' fault! They're products of an unfair system MAAAANNN!

Wow... Most of y'all just love getting outraged over "police brutality" like you really care about the victim when in reality all you care about is pointing the finger at the MAAAANNNN! Be outraged about all of it. Be brave enough to speak HONESTLY about ALL unfair brutality. Or don't speak about it at all.

Freakin guilty whites... No common sense or honesty. NONE. Keep pointing the figure at one group and not the other OBVIOUS problem when it comes to unfair brutality. Avoid an honest conversation about race and culture in this country and just keep pointing the finger at the MMMAAAANNN like you're some kind of crusader or the slightest bit edgy.

This goes for the media too. Too damn scared and guilty to mention this racially motivated attacks by blacks on whites. If they do mention it they leave out the race and make excuses for the true motivations. Sickening and unfortunately predictable.

Bill Burr on Getting a Gun

jones1899 says...

Rychan, you're right. We buy pools and encourage kids to play in them, thereby sending a bad signal regarding the danger of it. Most gun owners treat guns like the deadly serious pieces of machinery they are (of course there are jackasses out there that would be an exception to that). The first time I held a gun I accidentally passed the barrel across the direction of my uncle and I wasn't allowed to hold another gun until a YEAR later. Never made that mistake again. It's like anything that's dangerous -it requires personal responsibility and not the government to play mommy. Except in the case of guns it should also require background checks and stricter penalties if you're a dumbass.

Also the 2nd Amendment has already been studied and ruled on several times by several folks. For this guy (who is funny by the way) to act like HE knows what the forefathers meant is kinda meaningless. Entertaining, but meaningless.

Background checks? Sure. No more gun show loopholes? Absolutely. Tougher penalties for gun related crimes. YES! But allowing the government to tell responsible citizens that they can't own something because criminals might use a similar gun to kill people makes zero sense in a dozen ways.

Criminals kill people. Killing people is illegal. Therefore criminals are up for doing illegal things. If owning certain guns is illegal and we've already established that criminals do illegal things, then...

Also, why is it the same crowd that wants to ban "assault weapons" (such a misunderstood and misused, meaningless term) supports legalizing drugs? How does that make a lick of sense? And do say that guns are responsible for more deaths, because it you look at the stats, there so called assault weapons are very RARELY used in crimes.

Let's just get rid of all the bullshit that's between the two sides. Can't we agree on: Background checks? Sure. No more gun show loopholes? Absolutely. Tougher penalties for gun related crimes. YES! YES! YES!
