Just stop thinking so hard!
>> ^Stormsinger:
I'm sure you're right, but...if you're going to make a statement for public consumption, you'd BETTER think it through pretty thoroughly. Most of the responsibility for clear communications HAS to be on the shoulders of the person making the statement. They're the only ones who could possibly -be- clear.

The Invisible Bicycle Helmet (Some thought it can't be done)
I assume that was bike lanes which werent separated from the road?
Also, here in Norway.. people let you across the street if you want across.. noticed when I lived in Geneva that it was pretty much like playing Frogger, so I'm aware that things may be more dangerous in other countries..
>> ^Ryjkyj:
I know two people personally who have been riding their bikes in the bike lane when a truck drove up behind them and smashed the back of their head with an extended mirror.
The Invisible Bicycle Helmet (Some thought it can't be done)
I always use my bicycle on the sidewalk or separate bicycle roads, my average speed is 16 km/h (10 mph), I always look for immediate and potential dangers and slow down near kids and animals as well as turn down the volume on my music when I need to dedicate more attention, I never cross a road unless I have eye contact with the approaching driver, and I have never in my 30+ year life been close to landing with any parts of my body above my knee (since all the crashes I have ever had have been low-speed while trying to break on gravel). (Also my mileage on bicycle since April when the snow disappeared is ~900km.)
Maybe this will come back to haunt me one day, but I'm so surprised that people need bicycle helmets for most of the slow speed bycycling they do when what they need is actually a brain, since everyone I know that has been involved in serious bicycle crashes have been stupid, reckless or just crazy.
Of course if you have to use the roads and live in France, then please do wear one..
Pay attention to the car thats coming instead of cutting. Tap the break a bit instead of going full speed down a hill. Slow down (and show some respect) for your fellow humans and animals.
Avoiding an accident alltogether is always better than being in one with a crappy helmet.
I use a helmet when I go snowboarding and mountain biking though, but it's not a bicycle helmet.

Huge Explosion (confirmed Attack) in Oslo 22.07.2011
The police just gave an update:
A right wing extremist placed a huge bomb in oslo outside the government hq, killing at least 7.
He then went to the governemtn partys youth camp (with 500+ teenagers), and killed atleast 80 people.
He was dressed as a cop, and tried to lure some teenagers to him claiming he had important information and then executed them. Before he went from tent to tent and hunted the rest.
So all in all there's probably over 90 killed, many of them teenagers, many of them shot infront of their friends.
Unfortunately when the news came out, there was a lot of hatred against muslims (including a friend I was gaming with, whom I tried to reason with before it was known that it was a norwegian), and people of non-norwegian descent got called some unfair names at them.
I think it's important that people focus on the tragedy, and stop trying to play the blame game. People has died, *MANY* parents have lost their teenage son/daughter today, all because of one guys strong beliefs.
Bringing more hatred to the table will not make anything better.

I Guess This is Why I Don't Cave
In the army we crawled through a 20m pipe, which one barely could move through.. and in the dark as there was a guy infront of me blocking the sunlight as well as kicking my helmet.
It still creeps me out to think of it, and I don't wanna go anywhere near these caves. Only reason I managed to get through the pipe was to put my mind in a meditative state

Neil Tyson On Humanity's Chances Of Interaction With Aliens
Mr Tyson... If our DNA is 1% different from chimps, why are they 10 times stronger than us?
2 mindteaseers:
1. The human brain is twice the size of a chimp, which should make the difference in intelligence 50%? (or 100% from the chimps' POV)
(hope I'm not doing too much Glenn Beck math here..)
2. According to the wikipage "Chimpanzee genome project":
"Figures published in Nature on September 1, 2005, in an article produced by the Chimpanzee Sequencing and Analysis Consortium, show that 24% of the chimpanzee genome does not align with the human genome. There are 3% further alignment gaps, 1.23% SNP differences, and 2.7% copy number variations totaling at least 30% differences between chimpanzee and Homo sapiens genomes"
And the project is still ongoing, and apparently they still don't know what all the genes do, if anything, in the human genomes (source: pseudorandom wikipedia pages)
