What level of crime would say makes it ok? On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being parking ticket and 10 being doomsday device terrorist attack targeting the president and a kitten orphanage?

If as a cop you can't cope with a mouthy, pregnant woman without electrocuting her over a minor vehicle incident then you should not be a cop.
These guys clearly don't have the common sense, empathy or physical capabilities for the job.

Just throwing this in. Norway has one of the most liberal attitudes towards prisoners in the world:

Aside from having one of the lowest prison populations anywhere (as a percentage) it's re-offending rate is less than half that of the US.

On the other hand I think Shakespeare's adaptable to most era's/settings.

Trust me there is no appetite whatsoever in the UK for looser gun control.

The fox hunting ban had nothing to do with guns or liberty and everything to do with a bunch of rich country gents wanting to tear apart foxes with dogs. The rest of the country wasn't so sure this was something worth marching about.

And nobody was denying Tony Martin the right to defend his home, although some did think that him shooting the burglar in the back with a shotgun might have been a tad overzealous.

I believe common assault is considered a violent crime in the UK and that can be as little as pushing someone.

I agree with a lot of what he says here, especially regarding solutions. However he does rather gloss over the fact that if the violent crime definitions are similar enough to be worthwhile, the UK murder rate is almost 3 quarters lower than the US (1.3 to 4.7) - Which says to me restricting public access to firearms lowers the death toll.
