I think it was that part of being a genius is to have a darker, less attractive, side to your personality which comes out in extreme situations. That nasty side or 'being a prick' was as much a part of him as the genius side.

Infact his best work comes from surpressing that darker side and using it to push himself further but as the video shows he was never too far from steping over the edge.
