Two questions on multipart videos

-If a video is multipart, is it allowed to make a separate submission for each part? I've always thought it wasn't allowed, but I have seen it happen.

-If the first part of a multipart is less than 10 min, but the sum of multiparts is greater than 10 minutes, should it be flagged as long?

Also "Please do not post entire episodes of television shows or movies, unless you know beyond a shadow of a doubt they are in the public domain." needs to be removed from the posting guidelines or many many videos are in violation and must be discarded.

1. I've always wondered about those... if it's a yt embed, I usually try to make a playlist on my yt channel and submit it one piece. I don't think we should make a rule out of it, though

2. yes

3. I posted Goodfellas (via yt) couple of weeks ago, got 3 votes. I guess most people don't want to see whole episodes/movies sifted. some think it's wrong, some think it might get us in trouble, some both. my opinion on the matter is: if it's on the internet, it's fair game. after all, we're like piratebay - we just pimp links to other addicts

It's allowed to do it in several sifts, but it's good form to make a playlist and do a single sift with the whole thing.

if the sum is greater than 10 min, and it's a playlist, it should be marked long. If it's in several individual sifts of 9:59 or less, it should not.

Old movies, documentaries/mockumentaries, in general obscure movies are completely allowed. The rule is mainly there to not turn videosift into hulu, ie. not the newest simpsons, lost, heroes etc. episodes and not movies that are running in the cinema like, right now.

I usually post multi-part vids as a playlist simply to save queue slots, and it's more convenient for people to watch that way. But there's no rule about it, and sometimes you can't avoid separate posts.

So if your queue is empty and you have something popular you can post either one playlist or links in the description and get one star point. Or you can split it up and get multiple star points. I think a rule would be better, it would also make the Sift and searches less clogged up with split multiparts.

Sometimes you can't do a playlist because the video host doesn't offer the feature. I really don't think we need a rule about this. People can vote for multiple parts .. or not if their conscience is bothered by the idea.

yes, we should encourage sifters to post the whole lot (in a yt playlist preferably, or by referring to part2 with a link which will open youtube and the list of related videos) provided it's there.. In case a part 2 or part 3 etc. of a longer video is posted by the same or another member it is sort of a dupe.
