Second Life

I'm just curious if anyone here is on or has experimented with Second life.

I created an account like four years ago but my system couldn't handle the graphics. I've recently bought a new system, and on a whim, tried to log on, and to my surprise my account was still there and still active.

Over the last week, I've spent time on there, configuring my character and dressing him and making him look cool. But like so many computer disciplines, the more you figure out, the more you realize you don't know.

First of all, I'm realizing that the character creation can be complicated and buggy - with no tutorials that actually explain anything.
Second, Second Life is most time-consuming thing I've ever played with on the internet. I think in order to play Second Life, You have to give up your First Life.

There only seems to be two things to do in Second Life. Create or interact.
Creating stuff, at first glance, seems to be very complicated (Minecraft seems much simpler)
And interacting seems like pulling teeth. Everyone is in private chat. I can stand in a room of 30-40 people and nothing is coming across in public chat. As well, trying to start a conversation in like pulling teeth and takes an hour just to get the conversation started - by then, it's time to log off.

I just don't see the relevancy of the place. I can see myself unplugging and moving on very soon as I have yet to see any reason to stay there. I may not be getting the full extent of Second Life. I just may not be the type of person that can strike up chat with people I know nothing about. Whatever it is, it's very frustrating. I think you may just need to be a specific type of person to live in this Second Life world.

I'd be curious to hear anyone else's experiences with SL or if anyone here currently frequents the worlds of Second Life.

All I remember from second life on my shit computer and I think it was Dialup... maybe not. But all I got out of the game is I had to grow some hemp, the stage I left at it was all about growing hemp and starting a fire or something.

Not really a game for me anymore though, not into that sort of thing.

I created an account years ago when I was curious about the buzz and experienced an odd glitch. The first thing I did was walk off a pier and the I was standing underwater with no way to get back to the surface that I could find. My character was fine, and I got bored quick and logged off......Logged on about 2 years later out of curiosity again, and my character was still underwater standing beside that same pier!!

Oh and look man, don't feel offed because no one on the site will seem to respond to your character: Online paranoia, cliquish rules, etc. make any chat scenario unlike one in the world of flesh and blood...Call it human-interface nature or cyber-rules, I tend to label it developmental disability anymore
and trudge along my merry way. If people can't feel comfortable striking up a conversation with a stranger online from the comfort of their computer, well, they are probably equally as bad at it in the world of matter-manifest flesh.

I created an account a long time ago. The first time I got on I wandered around for the whole day. I met a few people and found some cool stuff. NASA had a second life exhibit where you could get a space suit and space ship. I think I burned myself out because I didn't get on it again for a while. It must have been a year or more later when I realized I still had it installed. I updated it and got on again. Once again I spent the whole day exploring. I found some bar type place that at first it seemed cool and fun, they had music and dancing and a lot of chatting. Then I got invited to the basement where they had a virtual bondage thing going on, complete with torture devices and stuff. People would actually pay you in the game currency to smack them around, talk dirty to them and shit. There is pretty much something for everyone in Second Life. I don't think I've played it again since that 2nd time.
