6 Monthiversary today (16th of August)

Yipee! Time for some thoughtful reminiscence.

Here's our first blog post.

And our launch anouncement on Metafilter Projects.

I started VideoSift out of frustration. I had recently quit a job with a traditional TV company where I tried to convince them to get into online video. From job disgruntlement, VideoSift was born. (it was this or me donning the Kevlar vest and paying a visit to said old stodgy TV company)

So much has happened in this six months, I get giddy thinking about the next six. The new design, another Sift-Off, more members, in the flesh meet-ups?

Big thank you kiss to you all, Sifters - I'm looking forward to linking back to this post on our 1 year anniversary.

This site is fantastic, congratulations, Dag and James! This place really sets itself apart from other video/community/blog sites. I'm happy to be a member. When are you opening the Sift shop? I'd like a mug. :-) Cheers

That ninja vid is still one of my favourites, i figured it would work nicely on a shirt because if people saw it they would be like "WTF?"

I don't think it would really be a problem resolution wise as you can do a few photoshop filters after enlarging for print(cutout, blur, or some kind of brush filter) .. also because its screenprinting, and people will be >1metre away, the quality doesnt have to be the greatest.

I know the website bustedtees.com makes a shitload off selling t-shirts with random crap on them, so surely random crap that is widely known via you-tube or goo-vids would sell like hotcakes. Like just last night I saw on SBS news a short segment at the end about the old guy that made his first you-tube video, which apparently is worthy of world news.

I was kinda tossing up on whether to unclude the you-tube control bar or not, it looks better as a t-shirt without it, but with it on there it really gives a clear image of the site's scope to use a marketing wankword.

Anyway, probably copyright issues with that idea.

Yeah the copyright issue would certainly be an important one. It's nice to see that there is interest in videosift t-shirts / mugs. We have been thinking about them for a while, our main concern is that if we pay to have a large batch run we might end up with a ton of surplus. One possible solution to this would be to ask people to sign up ahead of time saying they wanted to buy x number, and then when we had a large enough order go ahead and process them.

Would you guys mind holding holding off for a bit if we did it that way? If the first round was successful we would no doubt continue to make them. Also, mug or t-shirt, what's the preference?

wh00t demi-birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!1!ONE!!!!

I WANT THAT SHIRT.

guys, make sure to consider cafepress.com

I don't know if you get much of a "return" from them, but I don't think you would be beholden for any major investment - they do everything custom-made. They print t-shirts with your choice of comic strip and related stuff like that from websites.

In fact, if ren would send me the high rez versions of those mockups (nudge nudge), I would totally get them to make me a shirt like that...

James Roe says...

I used to run a Cafe Press t-shirt store. My main complaint with Cafe Press was that the product quality was sub par. That goes for everything from the shirts to the ink used to print them. If we were going to do a shirt run we would do a small batch; probably on American apparel t-shirts as they seem to be the most popular with the "blogosphere"

Krupo says...

That is awesome... I'm trying to cut down on my online/extracurricular time right now, which includes shopping for custom t-shirts, but this is on my to-do list for late September, once my exams are out of the way. Well done so far, though.

Interesting feedback, James. I once ordered a shirt with a Get Fuzzy strip on it because it featured my friend's name in an amusing context - I should ask how it's holding up a year down the road...

ren says...

Hehe yeah I need to go back to having a full time job so I can afford random crap like this, but I am tempted to get a few of these shirts made up for friends anyway.

Will tell you how it goes and what price i ended up paying.

I didn't realize that I had jumped on the bandwagon early on when VS was a baby and have been riding this incredible ride with you guys! Does this make me an original too (even though I haven't hit 100+ yet)?
