Nightmares Suck

Had a terrible zombie dream about a recently dead cousin of mine. Odd allusions to real life in zombie metaphor are always a little disturbing, especially at 8 in the morning. Three weeks ago, my cousin had an aneurysm and his heart stopped for ten minutes. He was revived and on life support for a week until we discovered he was a vegetable. When he had any kind of sensory input, like holding his hand, he would start to seizure, jerking everywhere. It was pretty awful, to say the least.

This dream had a really pervasive, undefinable aura of fear when it started. Nothing seemed amiss at first, but I just felt inexplicably terrified. We were holding watch over my cousin's body, in a Motel 6 of ALL places, lol.. and he starts jerking around, thrashing his limbs and making guttural groans. My mom said, "Oh, he's just having death throes!" and I'm all like, "But he's been dead for three days!!" He suddenly lurches up from the table and starts to eat my mom. I start to run but my brother says, "He's our cousin! He wouldn't eat US, Laura!" and my brother promptly gets his face eaten. So I run from the room and down the street and Ryan starts to stumble after me, plodding towards me, determined to eat my delicious brains. At this point, I wake myself up and come to the computer and start Sifting. Thank you, Sift! I really needed the distraction.

Some people have such coherent dreams. Coherent nightmares would definitely suck though. My dreams, on the rare occasion that I remember one, usually consist of some abstract epiphany that puts the entire world into perspective and grants me some all-powerful knowledge, but I always forget by the time I can reach a pen and paper!!! ARGH!

... You've definitely been watching too many zombie movies. That's just horrible!

I've had my share of dreams that were pretty lucid, but nothing as disturbing as this. Sorry, about your cousin. I never know what to say in the situation, but, you know, condolences and that. We're here to distract and please, and I hope it helps.

Practice lucid dreaming. I'm a very vivid dreamer and I used to have absolutely terrifying nightmares. Now, I'm able to end them because I recognize they are dreams while I'm dreaming them. It wakes me up, but it ends the nightmare. It takes time to master it, but it's worth it. Read up; practice up. Lucid dreaming can be fun too.
