For those of you who need to fight back
I think perhaps because I live near a college campus and 8 different churches in the area I have an unusually high amount of door knockers. That being said, I relish when they come by, I talk their ears off about the questionalbe source material in the bible as well as the metaphorical arguments against god. But the last pair I talked to was particualrly troubling. They seemed to think that the rapture was comming sometime in the next month or so. I didnt have the scripture with me at the time but I'd like to share it with you the community
Matthew Chapter 24 Verse 36
But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Remember this verse when a philosophically impoverished person approaches you speaking of the rapture. Even their own sources argue that it's impossible to know when the end is comming.

gwiz665I would say punch to the face, but I'm not a violent man, so I would probably try to convert them right back, just to see how they'd take it.

The one verse you quoted does not take into context the other verses on the same topic. Read the above link or at least the first bit of it. As for "in the next month or so?" They could only guess. They're basing their claims on the fact that prophetically, most of the players are in place and aligned close to what was prophesied.
There are many other bible studies available online for anyone who actually wants to no more about this sort of thing.

EndAllI've always wanted to go door-to-door knocking, but not to advocate on the behalf of any religion - but rather for the opposite; the concept of NOT believing in any God. I'd employ tactics like beating 'em around the head with their own logic, pointing out contradictions, listing off the abuses of Churches throughout history, etc. etc.

kagenin says...Religions are like really big book clubs - everyone thinks their book is the best, and that everyone else's book is bunk. The common goal of all these books clubs is to have the most members, so that they can feel better about liking the book they like, and that they always have someone to talk to about their favorite book or how much those other books are bad.
Or maybe I'm just oversimplifying things.
