It's a candy-assed arcade game, people.

Yeah, but I can play a candy-assed arcade game if it's fun, and I've had a blast with it. Realism is over-rated, imho.

+1 Throbbin. Yahtzee is tired.

Strike Commander is the best modern "flight sim" on my list. It's realistic enough, you can skip the boring parts, and you have to dog fight. There's a fairly touching story as well.

Mazesays...

I used to play Falcon 3, etc etc.. So I thought I'd give the HAWX demo a go, just to see what it's like to fly something with more than 10 polygons.

I think my exact words were "What the fuck is this shit?".

Aemaethsays...

I'm starting to lose respect for Yahtzee. He seems to think Halo Wars is a good example of RTS, he blasts the Wii constantly, and now he thinks HAWX is a good game. Can't anyone else put out a humorous and accurate review because I'm not sure he can.

Farhad2000says...

Video game reviewers like movie critics have their own preferences that seep into their own reviews.

I think them being biased is totally a given. I mean everyone loved Elephant when it came out or History of Violence when I thought both films was arty farty bullshit.

Asmosays...

Agreed. The attraction of Yahtzee's reviews is his delivery and the Flash anims that go with it. You might even find out a bit about the game.

I don't think the idea of reviewing a game is to bend space and time and end up having the same opinion as every reader...

What? He thought Halo wars was shit. And he never said HAWX is good. He said he enjoyed it and had fun, which he tends to do with games that are simpler and arcade-y. And so what if he rips on the Wii. That's what he does, make fun of things. Only insecure fanboys get upset when other people criticize their system.

dannym3141says...

Game reviewers such as yahtzee are designed to BE opinionated and flavoured with his preferences. Him delivering an unbiased factual review stripped of opinions and jokes - talking very quickly - would be absolutely pointless.

Call me mr. silly but isn't that the easiest thing to spot in the world?

Try watching the Halo Wars video again instead of making shit up. He said exactly the opposite of what you said he did.

Aemaethsays...

Apparently you guys misunderstood what I said. I never said Yahtzee said Halo Wars was GOOD, I said he considered it representative of an RTS. That's like watching a Uwe Boll movie and deciding all action movies are bad because that is your experience with it.

Reviewers have bias, yes, so do most political commentators. I just happen to think the best of both categories are the ones who's biases are unapparent.

Just because I defend the Wii doesn't make me a fanboi. I just don't like dismissing the system as saying nothing good can come out of it.

BrknPhoenix, try reading a comment CAREFULLY before making up your own assumptions.

Abel_Priscsays...

I don't think Yahtzee is getting tired at all. But then again, perhaps it's that I'm always interested in the actual review aspect of the videos?

Plus, the second half of the video had me laughing pretty consistently through. If anything, I think he was going downhill there for a while, and has been picking it up the past month or so.
