Wins of 2010 Compilation

All the wins that won.
Shepppardsays...

Ahh I remember the start of this video.

I wonder what ever happened to that guy, he was supposed to be tried for disturbing the peace or something silly because he willingly got people wet.

dannym3141says...

It is actually illegal to do that, shepppard, and i don't consider it silly at all. It's incredibly dangerous to go so fast through such a big puddle (ever aquaplaned in a car?) not to mention he was going beyond the speed limit by the looks of things, and passing school kids at a bus stop you should always be cautious.

That's aside from the fact that it's really, really stupid to do that and think it's funny. I've never seen the upside to intentionally ruining someone's clothes/schoolwork/businesswork/day. A friend did it to a bunch of people once, and i forced her to stop the car and gave them her details - nothing happened, but i would have been happy to see her get fined. Another time, long time ago, there was a large puddle at the bottom of a hill when i was walking home, and i knew someone would do it. So i picked up a small stone and as he went past me and drenched me, i put a big crack down his rear window, ho ho ho what a funny joke it is to ruin someone else's property eh! I am a card.

I believe that guy did get done, and rightly so.

Unsung_Herosays...

The guy that pushes the van out of the way of the train at the last second is more than just a win. He's a freaking hero. People could have died but lived to tell the tale because of his split second efforts.

I can only hope if I were put in a position of crisis I would come through as fantastically as he did.

It was heroic, but nobody would have died. Look how slow the train was going by the time it got to the crossing. It would have bumped the van pretty solidly but I doubt there would even be injuries.

Yeah, I know the story. You said the same thing on the original video that was sifted, and I'll repost my response to it:

"So..if I've got that right, the guy, who you have no idea why he was going fast, could have been sick, wife could've been having a baby, hell, maybe he just really had to poop, deserved to get a window broken over this?

Lighten up..it's water."

Never once have I condoned the dude for doing it, all I ever said was that they tried to charge him with something rediculous.

And I still stand by the "Getting Wet =/= property damage"

Shepppardsays...

@Mcboinkens (Not quoting, that's already getting a tad long)

In his original post about the story he said

"I remember on my route home from university a while back, i have to walk down a large hill that has poor drainage. On any rainy days it is impossible for me to get home without delicately picking my way down the edge of it which is also a fairly busy car route. I could do that or go through a park and get more wet there."

Implying it was already raining, and therefore already partially wet.

And on that same token, anything you carry on you that's electric should be protected better then just fabric if you're planning on going anywhere that you could get wet.

I have cases, and lined pockets that protect mine, and if I'm that worried about it I tend to leave it somewhere safe.

I'm actually more willing to say that if you're taking electronics out with you, willingly potentially compromising them, then that's your own fault if they get wet or damaged.

Bottom line is though: If you're taking your stuff out, make sure it's protected.

Someone threw an apple at me from a bus once - clocked me right on the head.

I laughed - it was a good shot. Actually, a pretty awesome shot. But hey - it was no puddle. Those things a so dangerous.

I would write a big reply to shepppard, but virtually everything that you've said is bollocks. You at least implied that you think it's silly that anyone wanted to take legal proceedings against the guy. Your words are so obviously from the perspective of someone who's never had someone drive through a big puddle at them (incoming denial). Newsflash - it's not the same as getting rained on, it's several gallons of water coming at you from foot level and hitting you on the rise. Your arguments would hold weight if it often rained from the floor upwards, and we wore waterproof gear to protect from that.

Honestly, there's no sarcasm in this, but i think i could change your mind on 'property damage' and 'it's just water' with a good soaking.

I really want to find out where you live, and wait till you take out a laptop or other electronic equipment anywhere in public then chuck a bucket of water on it. Hey, protect your property dude - prepare yourself and your goods to be doused with water from any angle and at any time! You're going to need 4 or 5 umbrellas, but you'll be safe!

I suspect property damage was discussed when they were passing the law and the weight of common sense won over.

@Mcboinkens it was a pretty good shot even though i was a decent cricket player at the time, i wasn't really aiming for that particular window though, it was just on a bend and i threw it at where i figured he'd be and it hit that window more by chance than anything else.

Shepppardsays...

@dannym3141

This'll be my last response in this thread, because it's getting us nowhere.

However, I'll once again give you the quote you apparently missed:

"My electronics are protected."

For starters, I wouldn't be carrying a laptop on a day when it was raining, and if I was, I'd be springing for a cab most likely, and I wear a leather coat keeping my phone and MP3 player in the inner chest pocket, both of which are inside their own protective casing. My watch is waterproof, the only thing that's in any danger of getting wet are $9 headphones that I have multiple pairs of, so, go ahead, soak me. See what happens.

And for the record, No, I've never been hit by a huge puddle. I have, though, been hit by a wave of snow from a snowplow, and I can tell you that I laughed my ass off.

Maybe being from the different places we're from are what cause our attitudes to be so different, but I still stand by my statement.
