The genius of Steve Ballmer on the iphone

Duration 2 minutes 22 seconds.

He reminds me of these sales guys whose laptops I used to support when I was in IT. Maybe they really need a geek in charge.

I hate microsoft because of snake oil salesmen like him, They are the roman empire of the business world, the romans didnt innovate, they incorporated other culures ideas. For him to dis the iphone like that shows his lack of vision, which I feel accurately represents their company.

The I phone is not exactly a good phone (I know many people that have had problems with them ) and its fetuers are pretty pore when compared to that of other smart phones. This wont stop consumers buying it though as the Iphone is a fashion accessory as much as it is a device bought for function.

As a portable games and music/ video device its pretty good , if it wasent for the price and hardly any space to store things.

I would pick apple over MS for portable media devices simply because of ITunes intergeneration and the quality of pod casts , but when it comes to work or Smart phones to be used as a Tool id generally go for a MS one.

If apple Made a version of the I phone with 50GB + of space for under £300 then I might consider It or an I phone with HD Sd card option.

The fundamental problem with apple is that there devices are totally closed off and are sold at rip off prices. then to sell them they market them as luxury goods unfortunately 80% of the luxury comes from the price not the function.

The only devices apple makes that I would recommend to people are the laptops ( although id equaly recomend windows ones depends on the user) and the new I pod classic currently the only portable media device with huge storage space and good battery life.

If I develop more games for the I phone I might get one , even then I think id probably prefer a small phone over a smart phone , and stick to using a net book for mobile working / catching up on things. maby if you drive need a GPS device + a phone + a mobile games plat form + a device for your pod casts and a smart phone then you might be justified in getting one having said that you could still do it all cheeper with a ms / android phone.

Agreed. Let's go down the list.

  • Apple's GUI (courtesy of Xerox) and OS/2 begat Windows
  • Playstation begat X-Box
  • Wordstar/Word Perfect begat Word
  • Lotus 1-2-3 begat Excel
  • iPod begat Zune
  • Google search begat Live Search and now Bing
  • Mac OSX begat Vista
  • Sun Javascript begat MS Javashit
  • Netscape Navigator begat Internet Explorer
  • Prodigy and AOL begat MSN
  • iTunes begat MSN Music
  • Apple Stores begat Microsoft Stores
  • Now, I'm not going to try to claim that no other company has derivative products in their lineup because that would be silly. After all, Apple didn't invent the mp3 player, that would be Diamond Multimedia. However, what I will say is that Microsoft has a vast preponderance of derivative products.

What did Microsoft ever actually innovate? Clippy, Microsoft Bob, and that fuckin' Search Assistant Dog.

His only mistake was that he had too high of an expectation for people. He thought that they'd want useful hardware that can be a functional tool. He didn't know that there would be so many plebeian sheep that would buy into the bullshit apple was selling for $500. You should be apologizing we let him down.

How dare you use factual data to try and make Microsoft look like a bunch of thieves. You're not giving them the credit they deserve! They took each and every one of those product you listed, and made it worst. Now that's f*cking difficult.

There's alot of things I could say pro and against Microsoft in the world of innovation (MS hardware has been pretty good, e.g the Curve keyboard I'm using) but mobile devices has surely been their weakness. I don't like the things but I'll hold fire til I actually use one on a daily basis - but who knows when that will be.
