(1928) Before there was Batman and The Joker, whether it was Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, and now Heath Ledger-- Conrad Veidt portrayed Gwynplaine, son of a British Lord who was disfigured as a child and forced to live in a carnival as a freak. He would laer fall in love with a blind girl name Dea, and wishes to marry, but it was not to be. This is one of the adaptations of the book by Victor Hugo.
