Sknyliv airshow disaster Anniversary

Today (July 27th 2009) is the 7th anniversary of the worst air show disaster in history.

This video shows the actual crash and the aftermath.

84 poor souls lost their lives that day.

!!Extreme caution watching this video because of graphic content"

i was curious about this footage having seen the wreck on a random 'worst of whatever on tape' american show.

that was pretty horrible. thanks for posting. it is raw footage, and on the anniversary of the event.

appropriate to remember the memories? well, i dont have any others of these people... and now ill definitely remember how terribly untimely their demise was. the words air show crash kills people actually dont have much effect on me since i have never experienced it. everyone will relate in a different way, but i think this video is good to remind how fragile life is.... something especially memorable via such vivid display.. and makes me appreciate living more. but that's just me.

be disgusted, yes, but not at the poster since this wasn't totally a random post.

it is not showing much of the actual.. moment of bad stuff happening to bodies... at least, not an overwhelming percentage in any sort of detail... mostly aftermath in raw extended context... in somewhat graphic detail though not HD or anything. anyway. kill it if you must. i know ~80 people who don't have an opinion either way, but do have a small chance for their deaths to impact powerfully on others through technology.

"Please do not post pornography or "snuff" films (which we define as the explicit depiction of loss of human life displayed for entertainment).

Note: The presence of human fatality is acceptable and not considered "snuff" if presented as a limited portion of a lengthy educational, informative news report or documentary. Our definition of "snuff" does include but is not exclusive to any short clip in which a human fatality occurs whether or not any victims are actually visible on camera."

By the FAQ this is snuff. 8 Minutes is hardly a documentary.

This is rough to watch. I saw a child bleeding from the head on the ground and that's all I could stand. I think it's newsworthy no matter how graphic. When I think snuff, I tend to think intentional murders caught on video - I know, however, this isn't the general consensus here.

Before this comment I have quoted, I was on the fence if this was snuff or not. After that it makes me believe that this does, in fact, violate the guidelines. If I were new to the sift I wouldn't have necessarily considered to be snuff because of the wording "for entertainment". It is documenting an event. I don't know.... maybe I still AM on the fence.
I do know I didn't watch the whole thing and I never want to see it again.

This video features similar content in an exploitative way:
http://www.videosift.com/video/Faces-Of-Death ..skip to 1:36:24 where victims of a 727 jet crash are shown.
If that video is acceptable, I make the case that this one is as well. Perhaps even more so due to the newsworthiness of the event.

That is absolutely snuff. The entire "Faces of Death" series explicitly promotes the entertainment and shock value of death and suffering. That is their sole purpose, to sell films depicting actual deaths. Snuff. That video should be removed without question.

Not a great first post from a long time Sift fan, sorry. Reality can be a little too much for the masses no doubt and a little editing could have made this post Sift worthy.

Sorry to cause any grief.

Thanks for the support and clarification.

Cheers all.

The footage isn't inherently enriching or enlightening, or inherently denigrating. I find the sentiment siftworthy... the event of historical significance.... and the footage not overly voyueristic or misrepresented. Maybe some good can come of... perpetuating the horror... when it's not presented simply to manipulate opinions, but rather inform in a way that is unique to a viewable medium.

Does that article have equivalent reactions? Is the video's impact necessary or beneficial, or just totally worthless and undesired? I dunno.

since it does violate a valid interpretation of the guidelines ... initiate Overlord Dag ruling!

ps this page is freezing my IE for a second on loading... but it recovers without a total crash.
