Oldboy - American version trailer - Redband

The official Redband trailer for the American remake of Oldboy.

It's fairly obvious from the trailer that they ARE deviating from the original story with this film. Which I don't mind considering knowing the twists would make watching this version pointless.
As long as they can keep the story engaging and the action visceral this could turn out a good watch. Even if Josh Brolin doesn't eat any live squid.

No thanks to Netflix. I will use Amazon or somewhere else that doesn't require subscriptions. I rarely have any free time to watch movies, play games, etc. VS, work, family, etc. took them away. Subscriptions are a waste of money if I don't use them a lot.

RFlaggsaid:

Get thee to Netflix. Although it is a dubbed version and the dubbing is a bit odd at times...

Actually, I'm not so sure they have deviated. Not wanting to say why I think they may still have the main twist/plot element in tact for fear of spoilers, but this looks like a pretty faithful adaptation to me.

Looking forward to it. Josh Brolin is awesome.

Also, American cinema isn't totally incapable of adapting foreign films (just mostly). I watched Let Me In last night and that was pretty well done.

I actually learned just recently that the Korean film is based on a Manga, which also has a different story. Perhaps this new film is based on that.

I'm keen to know the differences so I'm going to read the Manga when I get the time.
