A nice beamy catboat or a pokey old chinese junk are more to my liking. It's like cross-country skiing in the back 40 vs olympic ski jumping!

Yachting is only for the rich if you insist on owning your own boat. Even then you can still get away with a used 30 footer for about the price of a car.

If you're strong and competent, you can crew on any number of yachts, big and small. I just started hanging about a local club that was more of a co-operative than the usual stereotypical "Yacht Clubs" full of pretentious wankers. (Look for clubs that *require* members to put in communal maintenance hours)

There were plenty of friendly people who are all to happy to welcome aboard anyone who is enthusiastic about sailing, knows what they're doing, and doesn't mind a bit of work.

Anyway, this video is badass. Someday I want to cross one (or both) of the oceans on a small sailboat....hopefully before I get too old and lose the necessary piss-and-vinegar. Thanks for the vid.
