This is kind of an older video but I couldn't find it in the sift. Maybe one slipped past the watchful eyes of the sifters?

Where is the dupe? If a video is dead, should it not be posted again? I think this is a decent video. I have a lot of respect for the sift, so if there is some rule or some unwritten rule for reposting dead clips, let me know. Otherwise, please don't discard my clips as dupes without proof.

You're fine DA, the only rule is that we give the original submitter 7 days to fix their submission upon a post being invoked dead. I think the old one is beyond that, as it is not showing up in searches so has more than likely been discarded.

For the record, the title is wrong, the context is wrong, you would have to read the discussion from the original submission to understand this video at all. "Meathead" and "slap".. wrong. But hey, watered down ancient old videos is the new hotness! Hurray for the the *new video sift.

Is there a way to make it your video again? What do you want the title and tags to be?

I think JD has some good points here. I don't know why he didn't fix it in the first place, there could be some entirely reasonable explanation e.g no alternative embed code within the 7 day period and then it got discarded. Being able to dead vids is great but if say you're a gold or above then why not have the power to fix it there and then even if you didn't submit it? If the submitter chooses to discard it then fine it's gone and someone else can submit it.

It has nothing to do you with or you submitting this. There is a long standing serious problem with "healing" the sift database when a video goes dead. Ideally, you video (working) and votes could be merged into the original posting so that the date comments, etc. are preserved. Heck they could give you a published video credit, but the working embed would replace the non-working embed.

For some very very lame reason, discarded deaded videos can never be fixed or saved.

Instead, I have to endure seeing 3 month old re-submissions making the front page and hitting the top15. I personally don't have time to go around fixing all the dead videos and it would be nice for dupes like this to be used to heal dead videos. I also don't have time to check out the front page of sift and see YET ANOTHER I-already-saw-this-on-the-front-page video.

Regardless of the issue of credit for new submitter and votes. It is trivial to *fix --> URL to dead video
and the embed gets transferred over and the dead video is saved back to normal status. The newer video could just be launched into limbo, thereby preserving votes and submission status that way everyone wins.

So, there is so much talk about VideoSift 3.0 being "Web 2.0." One of the major growing trends in web 2.0 is open source programing web development. Maybe the new sift could incorporate that idea so that visionary problem solving people could help take the strain off and propel the sift into what we imagine it could be.

Shouldn't this be discarded now?
