Why does he seem reasonable all of a sudden?

Don't believe the hype-He's satisfied that history shall continue to be manipulated in a favorable light for himself and his ilk. Just imagine him saying everything in the Terminator voice, "Your gradditude iz nod-regwired. I am programd to fallow deah commandz."

Now say the same thing with the Obama voice....

There is no such thing as a 'balance' when it comes to security vs privacy, the instant you start encroaching on peoples privacy, your security has too far gone.

It is getting so tiring reading the opinions of you, and the likes of you, who do nothing but glibly criticize politicians, their policies, actions and personalities.
Instead of childish "terminator" jokes why don't you, for our edification, enlighten us as to how YOU would run things if you could be arsed to do the necessaries, and become an instigator of change. Of course you can't, because you wouldn't have a clue about policy, instigation of policy, ramifications and, well, anything. Constructive criticism is necessary, and can change things, but simply sitting at your comfortable desk spewing bile, discontent, and vitriol, is not.

Obama is damaging our standing in the world. Other leaders and their people just laugh at us. One could argue that he is more damaging than Snowden

I'm instinctively distrustful of institutions, apolitical, and have lived for 48 years now the bulk of those watching this hydra from the comfort and safety of free will and self-determination. I seldom gamble unless the odds are favorable or there's good company to be had in doing so, and never at a casino. I chose not to participate in anything with odds as tainted or with games as rigged as "participatory" government. I'd rather stand on a mountaintop shouting at the rabble in hopes that the few who would hear the insane voice of common sense beckoning, " Jesus shoved the money-changer's shit up their asses, take a lesson from history and call the assholes on their crimes against humanity and the planet."

My place in the new paradigm? How would I "fit in?"....

I would add A10anis, that politicians like the Bush(s) are nothing more than creatures of privilege who keep knowledge from the masses with a view to keeping their empires intact after they are long-gone and the fact that they have chosen to hold themselves up as mini-gods and control the apparatus that affords them this luxury and control makes them fair-game for all the derision, vitriol and bile they can be force-fed with implements used in asylums for difficult "patients."

What knowledge do they keep from us? It seems we have enough to distrust all of their kind already. We just don't seem mature enough to handle it and instead follow sheepishly into that which is not in our best interests unless they coincide with theirs.

You can't be bothered to try and change anything, so you simply give up and, instead, spend your time criticizing and ridiculing those who, for good or ill, have at least made an effort. I do have some anger issues-The crux of that issue perhaps possibly, my perception that I might be living in an era of mass-hypnotism of the planet's inhabitants through technologies envisioned originally to afford power now hi-jacked (and historically so) by charlatans posing as world leaders?

Another obvious turd lodged in my craw? How about a social-evolutionary path akin to Bradbury's "Fahrenheit" or Orwell's "84" turning an entire continent of what formerly consisted of self-determined, practical, and classically educated hard-working sorts into a cast of extras from "Idiocracy?"

Yeah, it pisses me off that so many people are distracted by what they are being told about some illusory process in which the common citizen might take part to imagine some bright future for mankind falling somewhere between the golden rule and the code of Hammurabi. The planet is being hi-jacked by a new breed of criminals frighteningly similar to the most egregious of old-For everything there is a season my friend, Solomon's wisdom in Ecclesiastes 3 it just as pertinent today as it will be for humans for the next 10,000 years-"a time to kill and heal, a time to break down, and a time to build up."

I'd like to imagine the new-construction-upon-the-ashes to include projects both organic and nano-technological in nature with the transformation of our specie's bodies, minds, souls and spirits as a prime objective.

(BTW, to answer your inquiry as to the "knowledge" that administrations keep in the dirty-little-secrets folder? Do you really have to ask about need-to-know information that would end the lives of yourself and everyone you know, because that's what the United States can do for you alla-Hoover, alla-Bush, alla-New World Order Über Alles.
What you think you know you don't, and you can't form an opinion or come to a conclusion on a subject for which you have incomplete data with which to arrive at those opinions or conclusions. Simple deductive reasoning or even a pragmatic model of the scientific method should make this screamingly clear to anyone who distrusts the anemically hostile Babylonian system .
