That's pointlessly harsh. He took a profit maximizing product, which was cost prohibitive to its target market, and redesigned it to make it both cost effective, and locally producible.

He expects to get paid well for his time, but he makes locally producible one of his design constraints. That means most of the money you see in his eyes will go into the pockets of locals who have the job of producing these incredibly important devices.

He didn't design for vendor lock in, he is not creating unserviceable devices which are designed to become obsolete. I don't see any of the evils of profit maximization in what he is designing.

If you think the US and EU should set up a fund to buy public-health-centric patents and public domain them, I'll support that, but don't shit talk the guy because he expects to be paid for the time he spends doing vitally useful innovation.

It's time to get down off the cross so the rest of the world can have a turn, sift.

If you've got the millions lying around to produce this product, why don't you buy the patent from him? That way you can send every single innovative bag to third world countries.

And I hope your name isn't a reference to the Ferrari Enzo, because that would seem rather materialistic for someone so concerned with helping others, saving the world, and otherwise trashing the very economic concept which made such a brand possible.

It's a corporation's only purpose to make money. You can't get mad at "corporate greed" for it is also viewed as financial efficiency.

Not to mention maximizing profits is required by law for any publicly traded corporation.

patent this for WHAT PURPOSE......

This product is essentially a simple version of a platypus or other water bladder. My interpretation is that the only thing important about it is that it can be hand made with basic tools thus simplifying the logistics of getting clean water to a population in the event of a natural disaster. Other than that scenario, a 3 gallon glass jug is probably a better choice.

I just hope the patent doesn't get bought up by a water bottling company like Nestle or Coke.

and really being a bag its very versatile, you can actually make soup in Plastic Disinfecting Water Bag which is perfect for a hunter/gatherer on the go, just load up some roots and some stank ass water and leave it in the sun for a couple days.
