Barack Obama wins the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize (BBC live)

This won't be controversial at all....
SpeveOsays...

He's not a nazi, he's not a socialist, he's not a Kenyan citizen and in my mind he's not a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize either, let alone a Peace Prize winner.

It's not like controversy is a new thing for the "Peace Prize", but how cheap and hollow do they really want to make this award? This is pure delusion.

This doesn't even address the recent nuclear de-escalation of Iran (they have revealed a heartofore hidden nuclear facility, and agreed to sell their weapons-grade nuclear material to Russia) due to DIPLOMACY. Neither does it address his wise actions in the Somali pirate situation, saving american lives.

Why do you think a person can solve a those three complicated and nearly intractable problems in a day? What counts is that he is applying efforts to resolve those issues.

I would be shocked if they were all solved by now. They way you rattle them off is like they have the difficulty of hastily done book reports.

He has no intentions of withdrawing troops from Afghanistan, and IIRC, he plans on sending more.

Which was at least, unlike the others, a part of his campaign platform. Merely pointing out the (what I assumed was obvious) contradiction found in awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to somebody escalating a war.

I would be shocked if they were all solved by now. They way you rattle them off is like they have the difficulty of hastily done book reports.

Don't Ask Don't Tell can and should be removed in the fashion of a hastily done book report, and yet look where we are. "The president has a lot on his plate."

Nice, nauseating media bullshit.

Many defenders of this joke say it's what he "might" do. I'd love to see this rule applied to other awards and commendations, rendering them pointless also.

Again, you award someone for what thet HAVE DONE, not what you think they MIGHT DO. Obammy hasn't done a goddamn good thing.

I would not have chosen Obama to win the Nobel Peace Prize, but this meme of "he has done absolutely nothing" is absolutely false. He has made positive progress on several issues. And just because there are stances he has taken on particular issues that you or I may not like, like the 'don't ask don't tell' policy, does not invalidate the good work his administration is doing. Isn't that obvious?

Again, I love how this has brought to the surface the irrational hate and resentment people have towards this successful guy. It's amusing, but sad to witness.
