An Air Racer almost wipes out in the Detroit River

This is a darn lucky and darn skilled Red Bull air racer almost crashing into the Detroit River at full boil during a pylon race.

The spookiest part of the video is almost his wife's reaction shot at being there at the moment when she almost becomes a widow (23 seconds in). I wonder what that does to a relationship...

His explanation of what goes wrong and why it goes wrong is interesting; just turning his head, moving his gaze, almost ends everything.

Fortunately they won't need to replace, that most important of large parts, the pilots life.

It floors me how someone can come that close and the only thought is for practical matters. I suppose that's a way of coping with the stress.

That's eerily accurate. The one time I've been in a race car with a real race car driver on a skid pad, he showed me how true it is.
We literally had no problem at all hitting what he told me to look at; on the other hand, looking instead at where I WANTED to go instead of where I was afraid I was going to end up transformed the entire experience.
Fascinating.
