After living and working at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station during the summer 2012-2013 season, I've had the chance to see most parts of the station. Here's a brief narrated tour of both the elevated station as well as the buried service structures. Shot on the Sony RX100.

There's a lot to talk about on any tour of the South Pole Station, but I tried to keep this video brief enough to be consumable in a reasonable amount of time. It's shot in 1080P, so feel free to freeze-frame to check out details. Reach out to my on my blog at http://JeffreyDonenfeld.com/Contact if you have any specific questions, or want to say hi.

Cheers!

I had no idea the station was this massive. Also, for some reason I really loved this video and it would make me take up any job in the station

Yup, the two things I thought of were The Thing!, and Aliens... That underground area goes on forever... I was waiting for him to come upon a nest of Alien Eggs.

ChaosEnginesays...

I worked with a guy who wintered there years ago. Told me a story about how one of the bulldozers drove off the "road" (the hard pack ice) and sank about a metre into the snow. No-one could figure out what to do. It was too heavy to tow and they didn't have a crane that could lift it (would put too much pressure on the ice and then the crane would be stuck too. So they left it for a while, until everyone got sick of looking at it, and they just blew up the ice underneath it and let it sink.

I have no idea if that's true or not.

But it's a great story
