From Wikipedia:
The vampire fish is a newly discovered fish related to the candiru, a kind of blood-sucking catfish. It is known to scientist as 'Vampyroteuthis infernalis'. This, when translated, means 'Vampire fish from hell'. It is very small and can grow up to about six inches. The Squid has large fins at the top of its head that resemble ears. Like many deep sea creatures the Vampire fish uses a very special method called 'Bioluminescence' which is the use of organic lights. This is a method used by most deep sea creatures, such as the deep sea angler, to attract prey or mates. These organs are called photophores which gives the squid the ability to turn these lights on or off whenever they please. The Vampire squid is very unique to other common squids, this is because the squid contains no ink sac. Instead, when threatened it will draw its arms over itself to form a defensive web.
